o-Carborane

ortho-Carborane, CAS 16872-09-6 is advanced material used for various applications including pharmaceuticals:

- source of boron in boron neutron capture therapy which utilizes a combination of low-energy neutrons and ¹⁰B-containing compounds to destroy cancer cells as a result of the tremendous amount of energy which is liberated upon the capture of a neutron by the non-radioactive ¹⁰B nucleus;

Upon heating (> 420ºC) o-carborane converts to its meta- and para-isomers (CAS 16986-24-6 and CAS 20644-12-6)
